Max takes part in virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans

Max Verstappen will take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 13 and 14 June. The online race, organised by ACO, FIA WEC and Motorsport Games, is a big event in the world of sim-racing.

While the real prototypes and GTE’s will only appear on track for the 88th edition of world’s biggest endurance race until 19 and 20 September, professional drivers and e-sport specialists will take part in their simulator chairs on 13 and 14 June in the biggest e-sport endurance race ever, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual. The online race, in which teams consisting of professional drivers and sim-racers take part, will be broadcasted worldwide on television.

Max will race for Team Redline in an Oreca 07 in the LMP2-class. The driver of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing will form a team with Lando Norris, Atze Kerkhof and Greger Huttu. Team Redline will drive with starting number 20.

The principle is simple: teams consisting of four drivers each, must consist of a minimal of two professional drivers and a maximum of two sim-racers. The race will take place on the game platform rFactor 2. A maximum of 50 cars can take part in the race and the teams can use a LMP2 or a GTE. The teams are free to choose their own livery. Driver changes are mandatory. Each driver must driver for a minimum of four hours and a maximum of seven hours.

Furthermore, the race will take place in changing weather conditions, and damaged cars can be repaired in the pits. Teams can adjust their own setup to optimise their performance. Refuelling and tyre changes are required. Strategy is central in the race. A race leader will monitor fair racing.

The organisers promise that the graphics, production and pictures will be of the highest quality. Racing commentators and pit reporters will work live from a tv studio in Paris and VIP guests will visit during the race. The start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is on 13 June at 15.00.
