CarNext gets to know Max: From sim racing to ducttape and cars

Published on 12 November 2019 by Mike Motilall

After announcing the multi-year collaboration between CarNext.com and Max Verstappen, starting from 2020 onwards, the Dutch racing-driver gave a peek in his online life outside the Formula 1-cockpit.

CarNext.com, the pan-European market place for quality used younger cars, and Max will collaborate in all the 23 European countries that CarNext.com is active in. The 22-year-old Verstappen will represent CarNext.com in their communication and create brand awareness among their customers and also in the auto-industry.

Max, we are able to track every meter of you during Grands Prix, but what do you do when you are not at the track? “During my time off I like to race online”, says Max. “At home I have a simulator, in the middle of my living room. When I have a day off, I like to spend a couple of hours on it to relax. Although, I still want to win!”

Does it help you or is it still for the fun of it? Max: “I think that in the Winter months, when you’re not actually driving real Formula 1-cars, it helps keeping you focused. The last couple of years, after the first few days of testing in Barcelona, my hands always start to hurt a bit, because they got a bit softer over the Winter months. As I spend more time on my simulator, and have a steering wheel more often in my hands, the discomfort has gone. It’s also just fun. But you’re also practicing and I think that it helps me perform better.”

Apart from online simracing, you regularly post on social media. You are very active online. Do you buy a lot online? “I do shop online and that is mostly for my simulator” says Max: “The last thing I bought online was ducttape. I needed that for my simulator, so I bought a few rolls. Is that weird?”, he asks with a hearty laugh!

Would you ever buy a car online? Max: “Yes, I would buy a car online. I think eventually everything is still heading that way, because it is easy and effortless. All the information is on your screen and you get the car delivered at home. Very handy.”

Max concludes: “I am very much looking forward to working together with CarNext.com. We both want to grow, get better and eventually win. That is the perfect combination and hopefully we can make it a success.”
