Perez signs three-year extension with Racing Point

Racing Point confirmed Sergio Perez signed a three year deal with the Silverstone based outfit. The Mexican, who has been part of the team since 2014 when it raced under the Force India banner. After several successful years as the leading midfield team, the squad struggled financially. A take-over by a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll - the father of Perez team mate, Lance Stroll - secured the future of what is now called Racing Point.

Perez, who started his career at Sauber, before a disappointing year at McLaren, is happy with his contract extension. "I’m very excited to extend my partnership with the team for the next three years," Perez said on the Racing Point website.

"I’ve been working together with this group of people for a long time now and they have become my second family. Together we have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success and we share the same passion for racing.

"I have been impressed with the direction the team has taken over the last 12 months and that gives me confidence for the future. I believe the best times are still to come and I look forward to celebrating plenty of podiums in the years ahead."
