Formula 1 will also use Pirelli tyres in the coming years. Pirelli announced this on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. The Italian brand will supply the tyres from 2020 to 2023, making it impossible for another brand to enter into the highest class of motorsport before 2024.

Until 2020, Formula 1 will continue to race with the current 13-inch tyres, to switch to 18-inch starting 2021. Potential new entrants would have to develop a completely new tyre for the 2020 season and then do everything again for the tyres that will be used from 2021 onwards.

F1 CEO Chase Carey is pleased with the contract extension: "Pirelli has been an important and valuable partner of Formula 1 since 2011. They are real leaders in the field of state-of-art innovation and form a leading brand worldwide. happy that with this deal we can guarantee stability for an important component in Formula 1."
