Pirelli announces tyre choices Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Published on 14 November 2018 by Mike Motilall

Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier, has announced the tyre choices the different teams have made for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. During the race weekend on the Yas Marina circuit, the teams have at their disposal the softest possible compounds, namely the super-soft, ultra-soft and hyper-soft.

The three top teams have a reasonably cautious tyre choice and are therefore more or less on the same level. All three have eight sets of the hyper-softs. In any case, Mercedes and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing have selected three sets of the ultra-softs while the Maranello based squad has opted to run on only two sets. The Italians on the other hand, have gone for more of the super-softs.

Renault’s team stands out like a sore thumb during the final race weekend. Where other teams have opted to run on eight or more sets of the hyper-softs, the French have gone for just only seven sets.
