Max after a positive first day in Hockenheim: 'Chance for pole in the wet'

Published on 21 July 2018 by Mike Motilall

Max Verstappen has had a flying start of the Formula 1-weekend in Hockenheim. After a third fastest time in the first free practice, he was the quickest in the second one. The Dutchman is looking ahead at the rest of the weekend with quite some confidence: “The car is performing well”, says Max in an interview with Olav Mol for Ziggo’s Formula 1 Café. “Till now we are lucky with how much we are losing on the straight, only three or four tenths. It's still quite a lot, but luckily we can make up for the loss in the final sector.”

The long runs at race pace were also to our satisfaction: “We haven’t been able to do many laps on the softs, but the feeling was there and regarding the lap times we were close enough”, Verstappen explains. “Whether it’s enough, I don’t know, but in any case, it’s much better than Silverstone.”

Finally Max looks ahead at qualifying, where there is a chance of some showers: “If it rains, we have a good chance to get pole. If we are already doing so well in the final sector, in the rain that should also work out well. I am confident of that. In the dry it will be a completely different story of course if we want to get pole.”
