Pirelli announces tyre choices French Grand Prix

Published on 13 June 2018 by Mike Motilall

Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier, has announced the tyre choices the different racing teams have made for the French Grand Prix. On the Paul Ricard circuit, where a Formula 1-race will be held again for the first time since 1990, all the drivers have at their disposal the soft, super-soft and ultra-soft Pirelli compound tyres. Due to the lack of data from the previous years, selecting the right tyre is a tough call for the teams

Regarding the top teams, Ferrari and Mercedes have almost a similar selection of tyres. Red Bull has opted for a more reserved approach. They will be taking three sets of the softs to Le Castellet and only seven sets of the ultra’s, the least out of all the teams. As oppose to the nine sets of the softest compound tyre the Ferrari and Mercedes outfit have gone for.

Williams has gone for the most aggressive strategy of all the teams by opting to run on no less than ten sets of the ultra-soft compound tyre.
