Max doesn't like gambling: 'I'd rather throw money into the sea'

Published on 23 May 2018 by Stefan Meens

Despite winning €300 in a game of roulette, Max Verstappen has vowed not to return to the casino in his home town of Monaco. “I don’t like gambling. I think it's stupid. You go to a casino to lose money”, explains Max. “A couple of people win, but they are exceptions. I’d rather buy something than losing it betting. You’re better throwing your money in the sea.”

How much is Max willing to risk over the upcoming Grand Prix weekend? “Every driver thinks the same in order to make the difference; take more risks in between these Monaco barriers.”

Qualifying is crucial in Monaco as overtaking is notoriously difficult in the streets of Monte Carlo. However, based on the performance of the RB14 in the final sector in Barcelona a fortnight ago, Max is optimistic about his chances. “Here in Monaco, engine performance is less crucial so that's an advantage for us. Mercedes and Ferrari have more power. But I think we have, generally speaking, a very good chassis.”
