Jos regarding the crash at start in Singapore: “Max was sandwiched”

Published on 17 September 2017 by Mike Motilall

The Singapore Grand Prix, which got underway in wet conditions, was unfortunately finished for Max Verstappen after only about a few hundred meters. The Dutch Red Bull Racing-driver was cut off by Kimi Raikkonen at the start. The Finnish Ferrari-driver spun and took with him both Max as his own team mate Sebastian Vettel in the turmoil that followed. Fernando Alonso (McLaren) was also hit and involuntarily became a victim of the situation. All four drivers would drop out.

Jos Verstappen tells Ziggo Sport, moments after the crash at the start: “To what I could see is that Kimi headed towards Max, so he had nowhere to go. Max was sandwiched. That’s a shame. Kimi forces him towards Vettel and Max runs into Vettel. That was not an ideal move from Kimi. This ruins the entire weekend, especially for Max. He just needs one good result.”

The incident involving Max, Raikkonen and Vettel, will be investigated after the race by the stewards.
