Physical workout for Max

Published on 28 January 2016 by Mike Motilall

Last week in Austria, after the snow fun in Kitzbühel, Max Verstappen had some work out. The 18-year old Scuderia Torro Rosso-driver, quite intensely upheld that training program also this week, under supervision of his personal trainer.

“I am training hard with Jake in Monaco, to prepare myself well and intensively for the new Formula 1-season”, is what Max tells Verstappen.nl. “This means that twice a day, you will find me in the gym. There is a good one here, with all the facilities we need.”

Change is often a good thing, just as with exercises. “In the morning, the exercises are aimed at stamina and conditioning. In the afternoon more powertraining. We not only work with gym equipment, but also with elastic fitness bands. We try to use our own body weight to work out.”

Is your training schedule now different than last year, when you had to start your maiden season? “My body can handle more, so the power training and conditioning are more intensive. Compared to last year, I have gotten physically stronger on all levels. I have noticed that and it’s something positive.”

In well over three weeks, on February 23rd to be exact, Max will, during the tests in Barcelona, take the STR11 for its first run. “That’s what it’s all about. I can’t wait”, he concludes.
